College Park Aviation Museum

 

In 1909 after proving the practicality of aviation to the US Army, Wilbur Wright trained the first generation of military aviators at a new airfield in what would come to be known as College Park. The College Park Airport has been home to a century of aviation history, and still operates today, making it the oldest continually operated airport in the world. It is home to many "firsts" in aviation, and is particularly significant for the well-known aviators and aviation inventors who played a part in this field's long history.

Maryland Science Center

 

The Maryland Academy of Sciences is Maryland’s oldest scientific institution and one of the oldest such institutions in the entire nation. At its inception in 1797, the Academy was an amateur scientific society—members met to discuss papers on astronomy, botany, zoology, and other subjects then known as the “natural sciences.” Rembrandt and Raphael Peale, sons of painter and scientist Charles Wilson Peale, were among the distinguished early members.

Rose Hill Manor Park and Museums

 

The Mission of Rose Hill Manor Park and Museums is to preserve and present the living heritage of the property known as Rose Hill from 1746-1950. In a child-friendly, hands-on environment the museums present the daily life of Thomas Johnson, Maryland’s first Governor, and the individuals who lived on the property as well as the history of agriculture and transportation in Frederick County. The property features a manor house, icehouse, log cabin, blacksmith shop, carriage collection, and two barns.

National Children's Museum

 

The National Children's Museum is designed primarily for children age 8 and younger, the National Children’s Museum (NCM) is a nationally recognized cultural and educational institution serving children and families onsite and through national partners and programs. The Museum’s exhibits and innovative educational programs spark the imagination and celebrate the true power of children, motivating them to become people who make a difference in the world.

Designated by the United States Congress in 2003 as the only national museum focused on children, NCM houses exhibits and programs that honor kids’ voices and reflect themes that speak to them as they learn about and engage with the world around them.
