Flag Status Alert: United States Flag and Maryland Flag Are at Half-Staff
President Donald J. Trump ordered the United States Flag to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset, Wednesday, September 11, 2019 in honor of Patriot Day. This is in honor of the individuals that lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001. As a matter of protocol, the Maryland flag is lowered to half-staff. No flag may fly higher than the United States flag.

Flag Status Alert: United States Flag and Maryland Flag Are at Half-Staff
President Donald J. Trump has ordered the United States Flag to be flown at half-staff effective immediately until sunset on Thursday, August 8, 2019. This is done as a mark of solemn respect for the victims of the terrible acts of violence perpetrated on August 3, 2019, in El Paso, Texas and August 4, 2019, in Dayton, Ohio. As a matter of protocol, the Maryland flag is lowered to half-staff. No flag may be higher than the United States flag.

As a mark of respect for the memory and longstanding service of John Paul Stevens, retired Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, President Donald J. Trump ordered the United States Flag lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset on the day of his interment, Tuesday, July 23, 2019. Retired Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States John Paul Stevens passed away on Tuesday, July 16, 2019. As a matter of protocol, the Maryland flag is lowered to half-staff. No flag may be higher than the United States flag.

The United States Flag and Maryland State Flag shall be raised to full staff at sunset, Saturday, June 29, 2019, the day of interment for Firefighter Michael Powers of the Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department, who died in the line of duty on June 25, 2019.

This is to advise that Governor Larry Hogan ordered the United States Flag and Maryland State Flag be lowered to half-staff effective immediately and returned to full-staff at sunset on the day of interment (not yet known). This action is in honor of Firefighter Michael Powers of the Libertytown Volunteer Fire Department, who died in the line of duty on June 25, 2019.

The Maryland State Flag shall be raised to full staff at sunset, Friday, June 21, 2019, the day of interment for R. Clayton Mitchell, Jr., Former Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates. Former Speaker R. Clayton Mitchell, Jr. passed away on June 13, 2019.
